Frequently Asked Questions
Working in a growing industry, here are a few frequently asked questions we field daily. Send us a message with any questions you may have.
What is CBD?
Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a chemical compound from the cannabis plant. It's a naturally occurring substance used in products like oils and edibles for its medicinal properties. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), it’s not psychoactive. The plant Cannabis sativa has two primary species, hemp and marijuana. Both contain CBD, but there’s a much higher percentage in hemp, which also has very low levels of THC compared to marijuana.
Is it legal?
Yes. On December 20, 2018, the Farm Bill, or Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, was signed into law. Among other things, this new law changes certain federal regulations relating to the production and marketing of hemp, defined as cannabis, and derivatives of cannabis with extremely low (less than 0.3%) concentrations of THC. These changes include removing hemp from the Controlled Substances Act, which means that it will no longer be an illegal substance under federal law. Now legal under federal law, it is up to each state to set their own policies.
What does CBD do?
Studies show that CBD can treat a variety of medical conditions, including anxiety, chronic pain and insomnia, and the strongest evidence is its effectiveness in treating epilepsy. The FDA recently approved the first-ever cannabis-derived prescription version of CBD for epilepsy called Epidiolex.
